There are two factors suggest the timing is right for online food delivery hotlines services. First, consumers continue to embrace all forms of online shopping, from books to bedspreads. Second, search engines and online yellow pages providers have invested heavily in upgrading local search offerings, making it easier to find neighborhood pizzerias and other businesses online.
According to Jason Finger, the chief executive of SeamlessWeb, his company has provided a similar food service to a closed network of businesses for the last five years, leading him to believe that this new consumer service will be less risky now than it was in the past.
Under the company’s current service, employees of SeamlessWeb’s member businesses log on to the site and select from a list of restaurants and meals, then the food is delivered by the restaurants.
